Understanding Your Landscape

There are a lot of different aspects that you need to understand when you are trying to figure out what to do with your landscape. Many different things can be done so a landscape. If there is an existing one, any kind of alteration would take some planning. Whether the trees should stay or go, is just one thing that will have to be taken into consideration. If you have an idea of what you would like to accomplish, a simple plan will help make for an efficient, easier accomplished project. If the site is new, an understanding of the land that you are dealing with help you decide what will or will not work on the site. When picking the plant material for your landscape, you have to take in consideration many different things. Five of the most important things to remember are listed below:

Understanding Your Property

If you're new or even have lived on your site for awhile, you should be able to understand your property. The amount of space may be limited. Some plants may require more room to grow then what is actually available. Others may be able to fit into the tiny space with a lot of maintence. It is best to realize what kind of work you are getting yourself into!

 

Soil Types

Different plants require different soils. You will need to know what type of soil you have in your backyard. Then you will be able to decide the right plant for your landscape. Don't forget to keep in mind the different slopes that could also affect your designs.

 

Neighborhood Restrictions

Unfortunately, there are restrictions for your residential yard. Easements and zoning laws are just a couple of the rescrictions you will need to understand before you begin to develop the landscape plan for you yard. The rescrictions will change in different areas so just be aware of what the laws are in your particular city.

 

Pest Problem

There are all kinds of pests. Even with all of our wishing, they will always be a problem. To at least gain some type of advantage of them, it is best to be able to indentify the pest so that you can effectively control the pesky problems.

 

Plan For All Seasons

Sring? Summer? Fall? Winter? No matter that the season is you want you yard to be attractive. Your home should have some color during those cold, gloomy months as well as, it should be beautifully colored when the weather begins to warm up. To make sure this all happens you will need to be able to "Plan For All Seasons".
